Introduction
As a catalog or course admin, you can unenroll learners from courses and training plans. This can be done either from the Users page or while you're creating or editing a course or training plan.
In this guide, we cover how admins can unenroll learners from courses and training plans via the Users page, via the People section of the course and training plan configuration panel, by managing Azure Active Directory (AAD) groups, and via the LMS365 API.
Unenroll learners via the Users page
Required role: catalog admin
You can unenroll learners from courses and training plans via the Users page in the LMS365 Admin Center.
The Users page enables you to unenroll learners from either particular courses and training plans or from all courses and training plans they're enrolled in. For detailed information on this process, see this article.
Unenroll learners via the training configuration panel
Required role: catalog admin or course admin.
Depending on the course type, you can unenroll learners from courses and training plans via the People section of the course and training plan configuration panel or from the Sessions section of the instructor-led training configuration panel.
The unenrollment procedure differs slightly depending on the course type.
e-Learning courses
Required role: catalog admin or course admin.
From the People section of the course configuration panel, you can unenroll learners from e-learning courses.
To unenroll learners and groups from an e-learning course:
1. In the Enrolled Learners column, select the relevant learners or AAD groups. To select all learners in the list, select the Name checkbox.
2. From the Actions panel, select Unenroll.
Changes are automatically saved.
As a result, the selected learners and the group members of the selected AAD groups are unenrolled from the course. When the unenrollment is completed, this will be confirmed by a system notification. Changes are saved automatically.
Instructor-Led training
Required role: catalog admin or course admin.
The procedure of unenrolling learners from instructor-led training differs depending on the enrollment type.
Courses of the Single group or standalone session enrollment type
Required role: catalog admin or course admin.
This type of training requires users to be enrolled in either a standalone session or a session group, or in the course so learners can select the session themselves, so unenrollment can be done directly from the relevant session or session group, or from the People section of the course configuration panel.
To check whether the user is registered in a session or a session group, or enrolled in a course without session or group registration, go to the People section > Learners > Session column.
From the course configuration panel, admins can:
- Cancel learners' registration in a session or a session group and keep learner's enrollment in the course.
- Unenroll learners from the course.
Cancel registration in a session or a session group and keep learner's enrollment in the course
To perform the action, follow these steps:
1. Go to the Sessions section of the course configuration panel and select the relevant session or session group.
2. From the Actions panel, select Manage Learners.
3. From the Manage Learners panel, select the relevant learners or AAD groups. To select all learners in the list, select the Name checkbox.
4. Select Cancel registrations.
As a result, the registration for the selected learners or AAD groups will be canceled in the standalone session or in all the sessions of the session group, but users remain enrolled in the course. When the registration cancellation is completed, this will be confirmed by a system notification.
Changes are automatically saved.
Unenroll learners from the course via the People section
In the People section, under the Learners tab, you can find a list of all learners enrolled in the course. Learners are listed in the People section when they are enrolled in the course, regardless of whether they've registered for a session or a session group of this course. Unenrolling a learner from a course cancels their registration in a session or a session group.
To unenroll learners from the course in the People section:
1. In the Enrolled Learners tab of the People section, select the learners or AAD groups you want to unenroll from the course. To select all learners in the list, select the Name checkbox.
2. From the Actions panel, select Unenroll. The selected learners and AAD groups will be unenrolled from the course. When the unenrollment is completed, this will be confirmed by a system notification.
Changes are automatically saved.
Courses of the All groups and standalone sessions enrollment type
Required role: catalog admin or course admin.
For instructor-led training with the all- enrollment type, you can unenroll learners from the People section of the course configuration panel.
To unenroll learners from the course, follow these steps:
In the People section, under the Learners tab, you can find a list of all learners that are enrolled in the course.
1. In the Enrolled Learners column, select the learners and AAD groups you want to unenroll from the course. To select all learners in the column, select the Name checkbox.
2. From the Actions panel, select Unenroll. The selected learners will be unenrolled from the course. When the unenrollment is completed, this will be confirmed by a system notification.
Changes are automatically saved.
Courses of the Multiple groups or standalone sessions enrollment type
Required role: catalog admin and course admin.
This type of training enables users to be registered for multiple standalone sessions and/or session groups, or enrolled in a course without selecting a session or a session group, so unenrollment can be completed directly from the relevant session, session group, or from the People section of the course configuration panel.
To check which sessions and/or session groups the learner has registered for, navigate to the People section > Learners> Course Sessions column > Select the List of Sessions link.
From the course configuration panel, admins can cancel learners' registration in sessions and/or session groups (retaining their enrollment in the course), or they can unenroll learners directly from the course.
Cancel registration in standalone sessions and/or session groups and keep enrollment in the course
To perform the action, follow these steps:
1. Go to the Sessions section of the course configuration panel and select the relevant session or session group.
2. From the Actions panel, select Manage Learners.
3. From the Manage Learners panel, select the relevant learners and AAD groups. To select all learners and AAD groups in the list, select the Name checkbox.
4. Select Cancel registration.
As a result, the session registration in standalone session or in all sessions of the session group for the selected learners and AAD groups will be canceled. When the registration is cancelled, this will be confirmed by a system notification.
Changes are automatically saved.
Unenroll learners from the course via the People section
In the People section, under the Learners tab, you can find a list of all users enrolled in the course, regardless of whether they're registered in standalone sessions of session groups of this course.
To unenroll learners from the course in the People section, follow these steps:
1. In the Enrolled Learners tab of the People section, select the learners and AAD groups you want to unenroll from the course. To select all learners in the list, select the Name checkbox.
2. From the Actions panel, select Unenroll. The selected learners will be unenrolled from the course. When the unenrollment is completed, this will be confirmed by a system notification.
Changes are automatically saved.
Unenrolling learners from training plans
You can unenroll learners from a training plan from the People section of the training plan configuration panel.
To unenroll learners from the training plan, follow these steps:
In the People section, under the Learners tab, you find a list of all learners enrolled in the training plan.
1. In the Enrolled Learners column, select the learners and AAD groups you want to unenroll from the training plan. To select all learners and AAD groups in the column, select the Name checkbox.
2. From the Actions panel, select Unenroll. The selected learners and AAD groups will be unenrolled from the training plan.
When users are enrolled in a training plan, they're automatically enrolled in all courses within this training plan. The same is the case for unenrollment. If a training plan consists of three courses, which users were automatically enrolled in, they will be automatically unenrolled from all three courses when they are unenrolled from the training plan.
When the unenrollment is completed, this will be confirmed by a system notification.

IMPORTANT
If a user enrolled in a course before it became a part of a training plan, then the user will still be enrolled in this course even if the user has been unenrolled from the training plan.
For example, if a training plan consists of three courses and a user has already enrolled in one of these courses, when unenrolling from the training plan:
- The user will remain enrolled in this course but will be unenrolled from the training plan and the other two courses of it.
- Users that haven't previously been enrolled in a course of the training plan will be unenrolled from the training plan and all three courses inside it.
Unenroll learners via Azure Active Directory (AAD) groups
1. If you remove users from an AAD group, these users will be automatically unenrolled from all the courses and training plans they were enrolled in via this AAD group. These users will be removed from the Users page as well if they aren't enrolled in any other course or training plan as individual users.
Users that are enrolled in a course or training plan as individual users, not as part of an AAD group, will retain their enrollments and stay in the Users list of the catalog.
2. If you remove the entire AAD group from the course catalog:
- All members of this group will be unenrolled from all the courses and training plans they were enrolled in via this AAD group.
- The users that were exclusively enrolled or added via the group will be removed from the Users list.
- The users that were also enrolled or added as individuals or via another AAD group won't be removed from the Users list or unenrolled from courses or training plans.
