How is the certificate language and format for date and time configured?

Certificates can be customized and edited by the course catalog admin, like to display the content of the certificate in a certain language and with a certain format for date and time. This article describes how to define the language and format of the date and time of certificates.

NOTE

If you change the Locale settings of the course or training plan, edit the certificate template, or change a certificate template used in a course or training plan, the previously acquired certificates of this course or training plan will remain unchanged.

Certificate language

To edit the language of a certificate, the course catalog admin needs to edit the certificate template used for this certificate. This is done from the LMS365 Admin Center > Catalog Settings > Certificate Templates > Edit Certificate Template. See more details here.

The language of the certificate template can be changed the following way:

  • In the Name, Description, and Content fields, the free text is custom, and the course catalog admin simply writes the text in the relevant language.
  • The language of the variables (except for the {date} and {expirydate} variables) can't be changed and the values of the variables will remain as they are registered in the system. For example, if the username is in English, it will remain in English in the certificate.
  • The language of the {date} and {expirydate} variables is controlled by the current Locale settings of the course or training plan the certificate template is used in. To change the language of the {date} and {expirydate} variables, you, therefore, need to change the course or training plan Locale settings in the Regional Setting section of the course or training plan in question.
  • If the Background Image has text on it, this can't be changed as this will be part of the image. If another language for your certificate background is required, use a different background image.

Certificate date and time format

The date and time format of a certificate is set via the {date} and {expirydate} variables format options.

To edit the format of date and time on a certificate, the course catalog admin will need to edit the relevant variable(s) used in the certificate template. This is done from the LMS365 Admin Center > Catalog Settings > Certificate Templates > Edit Certificate Template. See more details here.

If a date variable contains text, this will need to be changed in the Locale settings of the course or training plan the certificate template is used in, as the language of the {date} and {expirydate} variables is controlled by this setting. More information on the certificate language can be found in the section above.
