  1. 1. LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in

The LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in provides the customer with the ability to deliver, track and record assessments. The Add-in can be installed either as a stand-alone Add-in or as a part of the LMS365® solution.

The LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in is designed to create quizzes that can be used as intermediate or final tests in the learning process. A Quiz is a type of examination consisting of several question types such as Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer, True or False, Ordering Answers or Matching Answers. The interactivity that quizzes provide get Learners more interested and involved in the learning process.

  1. 2. Permission Levels

The LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in uses the following minimum permission levels required to install and run the add-in:

  1. 1. Site Collection Administrator – to install the add-in;

  2. 2. Manage – for add-in permission request (indicates the activities that an add-in is permitted to do within the requested scope). This add-in permission level corresponds to Designer user permission level. If a user attempts to install an add-in that requests more permissions than the user has, an error message displays to the user informing him that he does not have sufficient permissions to grant the add-in its request;

  3. 3. Full Control – for people who can administer the add-in (Team Site Owners Group by default);

  4. 4. Read – for User to run the quizzes within the add-in.

  1. 3. Adding Quiz Builder Add-in Part

The LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in comes with an Add-in Part. The Add-in Part will provide the UI for users to view and complete Quizzes.

To add the Add-in Part to a page, do the following:

  1. 1. Go to the page, to which you want to add the Add-in;

  2. 2. Enter the Edit mode (click the Edit button Picture 1 in the ribbon);

  3. 3. Go to the Insert tab in the ribbon menu and select App Part:

  1. 4. Select the My Quizzes add-in part and click Add:

The page will now be saved and the Add-in Part will be added to the page:

Quiz Builder Add-in Part contains the list of Quizzes created for the current site. Next to the Quiz title buttons with available actions are located:

  • Picture 23 Start - if the Quiz hasn’t been started by the Learner;

  • Picture 448Continue – if the Quiz attempt has been started by the Learner, but not finished yet;

  • Picture 454Out of Attempts – if the Learner’s Quiz attempt has been finished unsuccessfully and he has no more available attempts for this Quiz;

  1. 4. Quiz Builder Add-in Part Settings

To access the Quiz Builder Add-in Part settings, click the Add-in Part Settings link on the Add-in Part:

You can select whether to show Quiz Builder Add-in in the Add-in part or not:

When the LMS365 | Learning Module Builder Add-in and/or the LMS365 | SCORM & AICC Player Add-in are also installed on the site you will be able to configure which Add-ins and in what order will be displayed in the Add-in part (by default all are enabled). When all Add-ins are installed (and the Learning Module Builder Add-in is enabled) you will have an option to hide Content Packages and/or Quizzes if they are part of a learning module:

Select Add-ins to be displayed on the Add-in Part, use drag-and-drop to change their order, and then click Save button to save the changes or Cancel button to discard them.

Items from the enabled add-ins (Quizzes/SCORM or AICC packages/Learning Modules) will be displayed in the Add-in Part:

To change the order of items inside the Add-in part:

  1. 1. Click the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and select Quizzes to go to the Add-in Administration back-end:

The changes made in the Administration part of the Add-in will automatically be shown in the Add-in Part.

    1. 4.1 Additional options for Add-in Part

To filter items shown in the Add-in Part, do the following:

  1. 1. Enter page Edit mode (click the Edit button Picture 612 in the ribbon);

  2. 2. Click My Quizzes Web Part Menu icon Picture 613;

  3. 3. Choose Edit Web Part:

To direct users to a custom page after they have finished the attempt, do the following:

  1. 1. Enter the Edit mode (click the Edit button Picture 617 in the ribbon);

NOTE:

In order to see these options in add-in part you need to have ‘Custom Script’ options enabled in the tenant settings. Use the following link to check where you can find these settings.

  1. 5. Creating Quizzes

To create a new quiz, do the following:

  1. 1. Click the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and select Quizzes to go to the Add-in Administration back-end:

  1. 2. On the opened Administration page click Quiz Storage tile, and then click Create Quiz button Picture 394:

  1. 4. Complete the opened form:

    • − Title – specify name of the Quiz;

NOTE:

It is possible to create quizzes with the identical titles.

    • − Description – specify description of the Quiz;

    • − Quiz Passing Score % – set passing score for the Quiz. It is possible to set value from 0% to 100%. If a user sets different value or does not set any value, a validation message will appear;

    • − Max Attempts – specify maximum number of attempts for the Quiz. It is possible to set values from 0 to 2147483647 (default value is set to 1). If a user sets different value, a validation message will appear. If a user does not set any value for this field, a number of attempts is unlimited;

    • − Allow Review – enable this option to allow Learners to review their Quiz attempts (by default it is disabled). When this option is enabled, ‘Show correct answers’ option becomes available:

Enable this option to allow Learners to see correct answers in the Review mode;

    • − Quiz Questions – select a type of question for the Quiz, and then drag the selected type from the left to the Quiz Editor:

      • • Multiple Choice – create a question with multiple choice (minimum two answers are required), but with the only one correct:

        • Question Name – specify name of the question;

        • Question – type the question. Use rich-text editor to edit a question. It is possible to upload media content in the question (see subchapter 5.1 for details);

  • Answersset answers for the question and check the correct answer. Use Edit button Picture 412 to edit the answer and Save button Picture 468 to save it or Delete button Picture 413 to delete the answer. By default 3 answers are displayed. To add more answers, click Add Answer button Picture 414. If a user creates an empty answer, a validation message will appear:

  • Randomize Answers – enable this option to randomize answers during passing the quiz;

  • Points Awarded – specify number of points awarded for the right answer. It is possible to set values from 0 to 2147483647. If a user sets different value, a validation message will appear.

      • • Multiple Answers – create a question with multiple answers (more than one answer can be correct):

        • Question Name – specify name of the question;

        • Question – type the question. Use rich-text editor to edit a question. It is possible to upload media content in the question (see subchapter 5.1 for details);

  • Answers – set answers for the question and check the correct one(s). Use Edit button Picture 14 to edit the answer and Save button Picture 17 to save it or Delete button Picture 18 to delete the answer. By default 3 answers are displayed. To add more answers, click Add Answer button Picture 588. If a user creates an empty answer, a validation message will appear:

  • Points Awarded – specify number of points awarded for the right answer. It is possible to set values from 0 to 2147483647. If a user sets different value, a validation message will appear.

      • • Ordering Answers – create a question with items that must be put in the correct order:

        • Question Name – specify the name of the question;

        • Question – type the question. Use rich-text editor to edit a question. It is possible to upload media content in the question (see subchapter 5.1 for details).

        • Answersenter answers that must be put in the correct order and arrange them as required (Learners will be required to put answers in the order that you have set). Use drag-and-drop Picture 477 to set answers order. All answers are randomized by default when passing the quiz. Use Edit button Picture 3 to edit the answer and Save button Picture 456 to save it or Delete button Picture 464 to delete the answer. By default, 3 answers are displayed. To add more answers, click Add Answer button Picture 476. If a user creates an empty answer, a validation message will appear:

      • • Matching Answers – create a question that requires matching questions with the correct answers:

        • Question – type the question. Use rich-text editor to edit a question. It is possible to upload media content in the question (see subchapter 5.1 for details).

        • Answersthere are two columns: enter questions in the left column and matching answers in the right one. While creating items in the columns, you can use rich-text editor and upload images:

When an image is uploaded, you can change its size by clicking resize icon Picture 524 and customizing the size as needed.

Use Edit button Picture 505 to edit the item and Save button Picture 506 to save it or Delete button Picture 507 to delete the item. By default 3 items are displayed. To add more items, click Add Matching button Picture 508. If a user creates an empty item, a validation message will appear:

        • Randomize Items – enable this option to randomize questions from the left part during passing the quiz. Answers from the right part are always randomized;

        • Points Awarded – specify number of points awarded for the right answer. It is possible to set values from 0 to 2147483647. If a user sets different value, a validation message will appear.

NOTE:

It is possible to create questions with the identical titles.

  1. 5. Use Edit button Picture 589 to edit the question (Edit Question dialog will appear) or Delete button Picture 590 to delete the question;

  2. 6. Use drag-and-drop Picture 591 to change the order of the questions inside the quiz:

  1. 7. Click Save button Picture 592 to save the quiz or Cancel button Picture 593 to discard the creating.

NOTE:

When user clicks Cancel button, a confirmation message will appear:

If user has left the Quiz creation page without saving changes, next time he opens this page, he will be proposed to restore unsaved changes:

After saving a user will be redirected to Quiz Storage page and a quiz will appear in a list of quizzes. The created Quiz will be available for all sites on site collection. To add created Quiz to the current site, go to Quizzes page > Select a Quiz > Add to Course > On > Save:

The Quiz will be added to the current site and will be displayed in My Quizzes Add-in part.

NOTE:

A quiz can also be created on Quizzes page. To do this, go to the Add-in Administration back-end. On Quizzes page click Select a Quiz button Picture 594, and then click Create button in Select a Quiz dialog. You will be redirected to Quiz Creation page. When creating a Quiz from Quizzes page, a user is able to set created Quiz as required for course completion:

After saving a user will be redirected to Quizzes page and a quiz will appear in a list of quizzes. A Quiz will be automatically added to the current site and will be displayed in My Quizzes Add-in part.

    1. 5.1 Uploading media content

It is possible to add media content to the Quiz questions while creating or editing it.

To do this, enter the Quiz Editor, select the needed type of the question, and then use corresponding buttons in rich-text editor to add the necessary media content:

          • Insert YouTube video – click Insert YouTube button Picture 6, insert YouTube url, and then click Insert button to insert YouTube video in the question:

          • Upload Video – click Upload Video button Picture 8, and then complete the open form:

            • ▪ Choose a file – choose a file from your local computer to be uploaded;

            • ▪ Width (px) – specify the width of a video player, in pixels;

            • ▪ Height (px) – specify the height of a video player, in pixels.

Click Upload button to upload a video.

          • Upload Image – click Upload Image button Picture 12, and then complete the open form:

  • ▪ Choose a file – choose a file from your local computer to be uploaded;

  • ▪ Width (px) – specify the width of an image, in pixels;

  • ▪ Height (px) – specify the height of an image, in pixels.

Click Upload button to upload an image.

          • Upload File – click Upload File button Picture 15, choose a file from your local computer, and then click Upload button to add a file to the question:

When a user creates a course with the LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in and does not click the “Trust LMS365 | Quiz Builder” link on the left side menu, he will not be able to upload items (videos/images/documents) to the Quiz questions:

Clicking the error message will redirect you to the page, where you will be able to trust the Add-in:

After clicking Trust It button, you will be able to upload media content to the Quiz questions.

NOTE:

All uploaded items (video/image/documents) are stored in Site Assets library. Learners can view uploaded videos and documents while passing a Quiz only if they have access to this library (to view uploaded images no additional permissions are required). By default, Learners have permissions to this library, but note that if you reuse a Quiz with uploaded items on the other site within the site collection, permissions may differ. Check them in Site Assets library settings on the site where this Quiz was created.

  1. 6. Managing Quizzes

NOTE:

Changes made for Quizzes are displayed on all site collection sites.

    1. 6.1 Managing Quizzes on Site Collection

To edit a Quiz, do the following:

  1. 1. Click the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and select Quizzes to go to the Add-in Administration back-end:

Remember that the system saves only the last made changes (i.e. for the last edited Quiz).

After editing a Quiz, old attempts will not be lost, information will be kept by the system (the changes will be applied for the not completed and new attempts). Users will be able to continue their old attempts or start new attempts.

To delete a Quiz from site collection, do the following:

  1. 1. Click the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and select Quizzes to go to the Add-in Administration back-end:

    1. 6.2 Managing Quizzes on a current site

To delete a Quiz from current course site, do the following:

    1. 1. Click the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and select Quizzes to go to the Add-in Administration back-end:

    1. 2. On the opened Quizzes page select a Quiz you want to delete;

    2. 3. Click Delete Quiz button Picture 481 in the callout menu next to its name;

    3. 4. The following dialog box will appear:

    1. 5. Click OK button to confirm the deletion or Cancel button to discard the deletion.

  1. 7. Passing a Quiz

To start a Quiz attempt, do the following actions:

  1. 1. Select a Quiz to pass in My Quizzes Add-in part;

  2. 2. Click the button next to the Quiz name to start an attempt:

The button is different depending on the Quiz status:

  • if the Quiz hasn’t been started yet – START Picture 492;

  • if a Quiz has been started yet, but not finished – CONTINUE Picture 502;

  • if a previous Quiz attempt has been finished unsuccessfully – NEW ATTEMPT Picture 498.

  1. 3. A new attempt will be started:

  1. 4. A Learner must select the answer and submit it to navigate to the next question (the selected answer can be changed by clicking on the other one):

If it is an Ordering Answers question, Learner must arrange items by using drag-and-drop functionality and then he will be able to submit a question and go to the next one:

If it is a Matching Answers question, Learner must match answers from the right column with the corresponding questions from the left one using drag-and drop functionality. Only when all parts are matched, he will be able to submit a question and go to the next one:

  1. 5. After a Learner answers the question, the score changes (if the answer is correct) and he is navigated to the next question or to the completion page if there are now more questions. Learner can leave the page saving current progress by clicking Exit/Pause button in the upper right corner of the page (he will be redirected to the site home page or to the page that is specified in the Add-in Part Settings):

If a Learner has successfully answered the questions and got passing score for the quiz, the quiz is completed and a Learner can exit it or attempt the quiz again (if there are attempts left):

If a Learner has not successfully answered the questions and has not got passing score for the quiz, the quiz is not completed, Learner can exit it or start a new attempt if there are attempts left:

Progress bar is filling in only after Learner has correctly answered the question(s). Filling percentage depends on the Points awarded for the correct answer on the questions included in the Quiz.

  1. 8. Review Quiz Attempt

NOTE:

Quiz attempt review is available if ‘Allow Review’ option is enabled for the Quiz.

NOTE:

Only Learner who takes attempt is permitted to review it.

After Quiz completion, click ‘Review your answers’ link, to review the Quiz attempt:

If option ‘Show correct answers’ is enabled for the Quiz, you will see Your Answer (if your answer is incorrect) and Correct Answer:

For Ordering Answers questions you will see two columns – Your Answers and Correct Answers:

If option ‘Show correct answers’ is disabled for the Quiz, you will see only Your Answer:

Click Next button to review all the answers.

NOTE:

Score and Progress values show the ones that Learner received after passing the Quiz.

NOTE:

In the Review mode, Learner will see all changes made to the Quiz if they were made after Learner had started the Quiz and before he had entered the Review mode.

  1. 9. Viewing Details of Quiz Attempts

To see details of Learner’s Quiz attempts go to Quizzes page. Select the needed Quiz and click View Learner’s Details button Picture 521 in the callout menu next to its name:

  • Title column – shows Quiz title;

  • Callout menu actions – allow to delete a Quiz from current site, see details of a Quiz attempt, and see Question Statistics;

  • Learners Completed column – shows percent of Learners who have completed a Quiz;

  • Learners in Progress column – shows percent of Learners who have started a Quiz, but have not completed it;

  • Learners not Started column – shows percent of Learners who have not started a Quiz yet;

  • Learners Failed column – shows percent of Learners who have not finished a Quiz successfully;

  • Course Completion column – shows if a Quiz completion is set as required for Course completion.

The following information will be displayed:

  • Name column – displays the name of the Learner;

  • Passed column – displays Learner’s passed status of the attempt;

  • Score column – displays the score that Learner got while passing a Quiz;

  • Passing score column – displays a passing score set for a current Quiz;

  • Status column – displays Learner’s attempt status:

    • Not Started status – an attempt has not been started yet;

    • In Progress status – an attempt has been started, but has not been finished;

    • Completed status – an attempt has been completed;

    • Failed status – an attempt has been finished unsuccessfully;

    • Out of attempts – an attempt has been finished unsuccessfully and there are no attempts left;

  • Date Completed column – displays date and time of attempt completion (they are shown according to the regional settings of the current site).

NOTE:

If you edit a Quiz and change passing score for it, it will be changed for the incomplete attempts (changes will be applied when a Learner continues his attempt and submits an answer) and new attempts and will not be changed for the completed attempts.

NOTE:

If Learner had more than one attempt, the results of the last one will be displayed.

Click expand button Picture 16 to see all Learner’s attempts:

  • Date Created column – displays date and time when the attempt was started by the Learner;

  • Passed column – displays Learner’s passed status of the attempt;

  • Score column – displays the score that Learner got for this attempt;

  • Passing score column – displays a passing score set for the Quiz;

  • Status column – displays Learner’s attempt status:

    • In Progress status – an attempt has been started, but has not been finished;

    • Completed status – an attempt has been completed;

    • Failed status – an attempt has been finished unsuccessfully;

    • Out of attempts – an attempt has been finished unsuccessfully and there are no attempts left;

  • Date completed column – displays date and time of attempt completion (they are shown according to the regional settings of the current site);

  • Actions column – allows to delete Learner’s attempt.

NOTE:

If you edit a Quiz and change passing score for it, it will be changed for the incomplete attempts (changes will be applied when a Learner continues his attempt and submits an answer) and new attempts and will not be changed for the completed attempts.

To delete Learner’s attempt, click delete button Picture 540 next to attempt you want to delete. A confirmation message will appear:

You can use filters for sorting the information on Quiz Details page. Filters are available for Name, Passed, Score, Passing Score, Status, and Date Completed columns.

Information displayed on a Quiz Details page can be downloaded to your local computer in an Excel document .xlsx. To do this, click Export to Excel link:

    1. 9.1  Viewing Question Statistics

To view Question Statistics, do the following:

  1. 1. Go to Quizzes page;

  2. 2. Select the needed Quiz and click Question Statistics button Picture 488 in the callout menu next to its name:

  1. 3. The following statistics information will be displayed. You can group it by Questions or by Learners:

  1. 1) Grouped by Questions:

  • • Question column – displays the name of the question;

  • • Total Answers column – displays total number of answers (of all Learners that answered this question);

  • • Correct Answers % column – displays percent of correct answers for the corresponding question;

  • • Incorrect Answers % column – displays percent of incorrect answers for the corresponding question;

  • • Progress column – displays progress bar with percentage ratio of correct and incorrect answers for the corresponding question.

  • Learner column – displays Learner’s name;

To search the needed question or Learner use filters. The statistics can be filtered by 5 columns: Question (when grouped by Questions), Learner (when grouped by Learners), Total Answers, Correct Answers, and Incorrect Answers:

  1. 11. Reports

The system allows creating two types of reports: by Learner and by Training.

    1. 11.1 Learner Reports

To create a report by Learner, do the following actions:

  1. 1. Open the Quiz Builder Add-in Administration back-end by clicking the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and selecting Quizzes:

  1. 2. On the opened Administration page click Reports tile:

  1. 3. On the opened Reports page select group by Learners from the drop-down list. Use filters to create a report:

  • Select – select from the drop-down list the name(s) of Learner(s) for whom the report will be created;

  • Include select type of Learners to include in the report: Active, Deleted (disabled users are also shown in Deleted Learners type) or All;

  • Start Date – select start date for the Report;

  • End Date – select end date for the Report.

NOTE:

Start and End Date filtration is based on the status of attempts made in the selected period of time.

  1. 4. Click Create Report button Picture 509. An .xlsx report will be created and downloaded to your computer. It contains the following information:

  • − Information about all Learner’s attempts:

  • • Learner’s name – shows Learner’s name;

  • • Email – shows Learner’s email address;

  • • Account – shows user’s account;

  • • Department – shows user’s department (information is taken from User List);

  • • Number of Quizzes – shows number of all Quizzes created on a course site where user is a Learner;

  • • Passed – shows percent of passed Learner’s Quizzes compared to all Quizzes on the current site;

  • • Score – shows Learner’s average score;

  • • Passing Score – shows average passing score of all Quizzes on the current site;

  • • Attempts – shows number of attempts that Learner made to complete Quizzes created on the current site;

  • − Information about each Learner’s Quiz:

  • • Quiz Title – contains the title of the Quiz;

  • • Status – shows completion status of Learner’s attempt;

      • Not Started status – Quiz attempt has not been started yet;

      • In Progress status – Quiz attempt has been started, but has not been finished;

      • Completed status – Quiz attempt has been completed;

      • Failed status – Quiz attempt has been finished unsuccessfully;

      • Out of attempts – Quiz attempt has been finished unsuccessfully and there are no attempts left;

  • • Date Completed – shows date of Quiz completion;

  • • Passed – shows passed status of Learner’s attempt;

  • • Score – shows Learner’s score for the corresponding Quiz;

  • • Passing score – shows passing score set for the Quiz;

  • • Attempts – shows total number of attempts the Learner made on the corresponding Quiz.

NOTE:

Information for the Report is taken from the current course site where Quizzes are created.

    1. 11.2  Training Reports

To create a report by Training, do the following actions:

  1. 1. Open the Quiz Builder Add-in Administration back-end by clicking the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and selecting Quizzes:

  • Select – select from the drop-down list Quiz for which the report will be created;

  • Start Dateselect start date for the Report;

      • Not Started status – Quiz attempt has not been started yet;

      • In Progress status – Quiz attempt has been started, but has not been finished;

      • Failed status – Quiz attempt has been finished unsuccessfully;

      • Out of attempts – Quiz attempt has been finished unsuccessfully and there are no attempts left;

  • • Passed – shows passed status of Learner’s attempt;

  • • Number of Attempts – shows total number of attempts the Learner made on this Quiz;

  • • Average time – shows average time that this Learner spent on this Quiz;

NOTE:

Attempt time is calculated from the moment an attempt was first started till it was finished. So if user started an attempt and after some period of time clicked ‘Continue’, attempt time includes all the period till the attempt is finished.

  • • Score – shows Learner’s score;

  • • Date Completed – shows date of Quiz completion.

NOTE:

Information for the Report is taken from the current course site where Quizzes are created.

  1. 12. User Guides and Video Tutorials

To go to User Guides and Video Tutorials section, do the following actions:

  1. 1. Click the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and select Quizzes to go to the Add-in Administration back-end:

Out of the box LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in is translated to English language only.

NOTE:

Out of the box LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in English translation can be modified the same way as it is translated to other languages.

 

NOTE:

The LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in translation is applied for the whole tenant.

 

To add translation to alternate language(s) for the LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in, use Language Files section in Add-in settings:

  1. 1. Click the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and select Quizzes to go to the Add-in Administration back-end:

  1. 4. Select an alternate language in the Select Language drop-down (a list of all possible alternative languages is displayed):

  1. 1. Click Export to save the language file to your local computer;

  2. 2. Edit the downloaded .xlsx file locally filling in the Custom Values column:

  1. 3. Click Import and select the edited language file from your local computer.

  2. 4. Translation from Custom Values column will be displayed in Your choice. Click Save to save the translation.

NOTE:

The new translation is applied after page reload.

 

NOTE:

Prerequisite for presenting LMS 365 sites (and also the LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in) in more than one language: alternate language(s) should be chosen in site collection’s Site Settings -> Language settings.

 

Rules of presenting LMS 365 sites (and also the LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in) in different languages (specified by priority from high to lower):

  1. 1. The language preferences stored in the user profile. (It takes some time before user language preferences are applied after you change them). See link where to find these preferences.

  2. 2. If no language preference is defined in the user profile, the language preferences stored in the user's web browser are used. (You should reopen browser session if you change browser language preference). See link where to find these preferences.

  3. 3. If no language preferences are defined in the user's profile and web browser, the default site language is used.

NOTE:

If you need the LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in be presented only in one specific language, you have to create Site collection (where the LMS365 | Quiz Builder Add-in will be added) in that language and not choose any alternative languages.
