  1. 1. The LMS 365 | SCORM & AICC Player Add-in

SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is used for creating units of online training material that can be shared across systems. SCORM defines how to create objects that can be reused in different systems and contexts.

It is created based on several public standards and is followed by major e-Learning actors like NETg, Macromedia, Microsoft, Skillsoft, etc. It acts on three levels:

  • − Economic level: SCORM allows whole courses or small content units to be reused on different Learning Management Systems (LMS) through the separation of content and context.

  • − Pedagogic level: SCORM integrates the notion of pre-requisite or sequencing (e.g. “You cannot go to chapter 2 until you pass Quiz 1”).

  • − Technological level: SCORM generates a table of contents as an abstraction layer situated outside the content and the LMS. It helps the content and LMS communicate with each other. Communication is performed by means of bookmarks (“Where is John in the course?”), scoring (“How did John pass the test?”) and time (“How much time did John spent in chapter 1?”).

LMS365 is compliant with Aviation Industry Computer-Based Training Committee (AICC) educational standard as well.

The LMS 365 | SCORM & AICC Player Add-in is an add-in that provides users with a list of SCORMs and AICCs along with their statuses, which allows monitoring progress in passing SCORMs and AICCs. It allows uploading content packages, gives Learners access to SCORMs and AICCs, and also allows them to view, review, continue, and delete their attempts.

NOTE:

When you are using the LMS365 | SCORM & AICC Player Add-in e.g. upload a SCORM or AICC package, run an attempt, etc. you are redirected from your O365 environment to scorm.elearningforce.com. This is the application host, which is an azure web service, and the application indeed handles certain actions with the help of it. Nevertheless, when you're redirected to scorm.elearningforce.com, the add-in keeps connection to your O365 environment.

  1. 2. Permission Levels

The LMS365 | SCORM & AICC Player Add-in uses the following minimum permission levels required to install and run the add-in:

  1. 1. Site Collection Administrator – to install the add-in;

  2. 2. Manage – for add-in permission request (indicates the activities that an add-in is permitted to do within the requested scope). This add-in permission level corresponds to Designer user permission level. If a user attempts to install an add-in that requests more permissions than the user has, an error message displays to the user informing him that he does not have sufficient permissions to grant the add-in its request;

  3. 3. Full Control – for people who can administer the add-in (Team Site Owners Group by default);

  4. 4. Read – for User to run the learning modules within the add-in.

Please see the table below for more detailed information on different roles’ permissions.

To upload a new content package, do the following:

  1. 1. Open the SCORM & AICC Player Add-in Administration back-end by clicking the “Add / Edit / Manage” link and select Content Packages:

Рисунок 451

  1. 2. On the opened Administration page click Content Packages tile, then Upload a Content Package button Picture 487:

Рисунок 453

  1. 4. The time to upload the package will depend on the size and the speed of your connection. Progress of package upload will be indicated by the progress bar:

Picture 492

NOTE:

Max file size that can be uploaded is 1 GB.

  1. 5. Complete the opened form:

Picture 485

  • − Title – defines a name as it will appear in the headings and links throughout the site. Enter name for the uploaded content package. If this field is not filled, a validation message will appear:

Picture 486

  • − Description – defines a descriptive text that will help site visitors use the resource. Enter description text for the uploaded content package;

  • − Allowed number of Attempts per User – specify the number of attempts a user can take the content package (default value is set to 1);

NOTE:

For Lynda AICC packages the number of attempts is always set to 1. User who has once passed the package cannot pass it repeatedly.

  • − Timeout between attempts – specify the period between attempts (can be specified in seconds, minutes, hours, days or weeks);

  • − Open Player in separate window – select this option to open SCORM & AICC Player in a separate window. If the option is unselected, Player will be opened on the same page.

NOTE:

If you select “Open Player in separate window” option for external packages (e.g. Lynda packages), Advanced Settings will be hidden on Edit Content Package form.

  1. 6. The system automatically determines which content type (SCORM or AICC) is uploaded and depending on this separates Advanced Settings for each type. To set content package settings, click Advanced Settings link:

Picture 488

    1. a. In the opened window select necessary settings.

For SCORM content type they are as follows:

Picture 489

  • − Show statistics for learner – select this option to show the result page after completing the SCORM attempt;

  • − Show node completion status - select this option to display the current completion status of SCORM items;

  • − Use control mode flow for all nodes – this option is selected by default for sequencing control flow. It is used for a better end-user experience with different kinds of SCORM packages. If this option is selected, after attempting to take the SCORM, you will be redirected right to the SCORM (questions or description if there is any). If the option is not selected, the sequencing flow may be violated for the SCORMS where the control flow is set to False by default. The corresponding message will appear. The SCORM content is to be selected manually on the Tools menu. Select/do not select this option depending on how you want to implement the sequencing;

  • − Treat complete as passed – select this option to consider the complete status as passed;

  • − Finish by lessons status – select this option to specify, if an attempt is finished when lesson status for all elements is set:

Picture 18

After this option is selected, 2 options will automatically be selected:

  • • Redirect to statistics page when completed – automatically redirects user to statistics page when SCORM is completed;

  • • Go to next SCO automatically – automatically moves user to the next SCO element. Works only for Intermediate SCO element;

If “Go to next SCO element automatically” option is checked, the system automatically moves to the next SCO element if the element is intermediate.

If the system receives from LMSFinish Positive status (completed/passed), it automatically moves to the next SCO element. If the system receives another status, nothing happens.

NOTE:

In SCORM 1.2 if SCO element has completed status = “Passed” or “Competed”, the system automatically moves to the next SCO element. If SCO element has completed status = “Failed” or “Incomplete”, the system does not move to the next SCO element.

In SCORM 2004 if among SCO element with completed or success status, there is at least one element with status “Passed” or “Competed”, the system automatically moves to the next SCO element.

NOTE:

If “Go to next SCO automatically” option is unchecked, to move to the next SCO element, user should click Next button.

  • − Allow user to resume incomplete attempt if SCORM Completion Status ='No' – this option allows users continue an incomplete attempt when SCORM completion status ='No'. Some SCORM packages set this status immediately when starting a SCORM resulting in New Attempt button being displayed to the Learner instead of Continue button;

In the table below possibility to continue attempt depending on status is described:

Completion Status

Success Status

Possibility to Continue Attempt

Yes

Yes

Continue is impossible - it is successful attempt

Yes

No/Empty

Continue is impossible - this can only happen in SCORM 2004 if ‘Treat Completed as Passed’ is disabled

NOTE:
